Title: One Silver Coin
Fandom: Trigun
Pairing: Midvalley = Wolfwood as an established couple
Word count: 100
Rating: 13 up
Warnings: Manga spoilers, angst, a religious reference.

They had been on the fourth drink of the night, in a rundown bar after another fruitless mission, searching for Knives's brother but never finding him.

"Say, Nick, you ever think about what those coins they gave us mean?" Midvalley had said, casually flipping his over in his hand. "Wonder how much money one would go for in a pawnshop."

Wolfwood took his own coin out, pondering it for a moment. "Aunt Melanie said that Judas sold out Jesus for thirty silver coins."

Midvalley slipped his coin back into his breast pocket. "The price of a soul really has dropped."

I like that very much. I never thought of that, but the coins really could be a symbol like that.

^_^ I always thought the coins were a symbol of some sort, a token, a reminder. That they signify the souls of their holders is an interesting idea, especially in light of a few of the comments in canon that becoming a Gung Ho Gun = selling one's soul to Knives.
